Daniel Sánchez

Born in Santa Fe de Bogotá, Colombia, Daniel Sánchez is a mechanical engineer and a self-taught musician. The son of a civil engineer, Daniel traveled extensively, becoming exposed to many folkloric musical styles. During his temporary residence in Britain, he developed the love for and learned how to play the Scottish bagpipes. While traveling in Spain, he learned that bagpipes are also played in Galicia in Northwest Spain, and eventually learned to play the Galician bagpipes as well.

At the age of 18, Daniel decided to learn guitar. Daniel notes that his greatest influences are Paco Peña and Juan Serrano, with whom he had the opportunity to play alongside during a concert with Dame Maria del Carmen Grupo España. Daniel was the principal guitarist, vocalist and Galician bagpiper for the legendary Dame Maria del Carmen Grupo España for over 10 years. He also continues to play the Scottish bagpipes with the Detroit St. Andrew’s Pipes and Drums band.
